The AMP 4th National Convention of Singapore Muslim Professionals took place on 15th October, 2022. The event first started in 1990 to highlight the importance of the Muslim community amongst the Singaporean nation. With hopes of boosting development in the education and employment sector for these people, the convention came about as a group initiative. This same convention brought about the Association of Muslims Professionals (AMP) within a year.

This was a monumental moment as it instigated the Muslim community as a group of people who are ready to take on more responsibility.

Following was the lineup for this year’s convention. These professionals came from diverse and experienced backgrounds.

  • Hazni Aris as Chairman
  • Edwin Ignatious as Head of Seniors Panel
  • Fathurrahman Hj M Dawood as Head of Family Panel
  • Khairulnizam Massuan as Head of Advocates Panel
  • Dr Humairah Zainal as Head of Youth Panel
  • Mohksin Rashin as Head of Convention Secretariat

The Guest of Honor was Mr. Lawrence Wong, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. The event began at 8:00am with registrations and ended at 5:00pm after the closing remarks. During these 9 hours, many events took place including panel presentations, panel breakout sessions, and many interactions with the Guest of Honor.

The goal of the AMP 4th Convention had a few key purposes: to teach people how to be proactive instead of reactive, use human intelligence for technology, and bilateral interactions leading to innovations. The audience was divided into groups to make the panels more effective. The groups were labeled as community advocates, family, seniors, and youth.

The community advocates were there to learn more about the aims of the convention so they could go out into the world and spread the message further. The family section was there because in our community, Muslims have more influence when families speak up together.

Seniors were a separate group because even though they are less in proportion, they have influence as the elders of the community. Since the youth is the future of the community, educating them through such events can be very productive for the nation in the long run.

There are several organisations that made this entire event possible and so successful. There were four tiers of sponsors. The diamond tier included Salleh Marican Foundation and CIMB while the gold tier included Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura and Layang Tua Pek Kong. Mr. Hairmann Hayak, the founder of GivingFridays, also attended the convention.

The event was centered around two themes; the main theme and the secondary theme. The main theme has always been the same for these events – to ensure Muslim professionals get a chance to be a more important part of the society. The secondary theme was to highlight Islamic values simultaneously with working on the main theme.

All in all the AMP 4th National Convention was a success as it was able to spread the message and motivation that it was originally founded to do. And the fact that it was able to gather such a respectable and well-educated panel just goes to show that dedication towards a cause can do wonders in any situation.
