An important event was conducted during an Iftar gathering with the Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr. Lee Hsein Loong, at the Al-Muttaqin Mosque on Thursday, April 21, 2022. The objective of the event was to gather various faith leaders in an attempt to enhance the multi-racial and multi-religious harmony in Singapore.

Besides faith leaders, it was also attended by officials from the mosque’s administrative staff. Others in attendance included volunteers and Ramadan Service Ambassadors, who were all there to contribute beyond their own faith communities.

Mr. Hairmann Hayak, Board Member of Al-Mukminin Mosque, attended the event via a connected Zoom call, participants of which were directly addressed during the speeches made by the officials during Iftar.

Mr. Lee Lee Hsein Loong highlighted in his speech that the ethnic and religious peace in Singapore has been “hard-earned and greatly appreciated” throughout the country’s history.

He expressed his delight at the country’s economic prosperity and development and showed appreciation to the authorities for their assistance in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak.

He particularly expressed his gratitude to the Muslim community for their sacrifices and understanding during this difficult time. In Mr. Lee’s opinion, the mosques’ attempts to modify their activities to comply with national regulations and safe management practices demonstrated the community’s ability to remain resilient in the face of adversity, alter their activities in the future, and show their willingness to do so.

The community, he argued, has been able to “re-establish some sense of normalcy” during this year’s month of fasting, something that had been lost since the outbreak began.

The Prime Minister hopes that Singapore’s efforts to develop inter-religious harmony as “one cohesive and united people” will be retained, which will be advantageous to Singapore’s long-term well-being and advancement.
