The hardest part of witnessing our parents age is seeing a regression in their strength and capabilities. The two people who we turned to for a helping hand no longer have the physical strength to do so.

Yet when Allah SWT speaks of their old age in the Qur’an, He does not advise us to offer physical help to them. Rather He says:

“And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], “Uff,” and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.” (Qur’an 17:23)

While there are many verses in the Qur’an that instruct us to be good to our parents, this one specifically highlights how we should treat them in their old age.

A specific way in which we you help our ageing parents in fulfilling their obligations is by setting up a GivingFridays account for them. Through this platform, they can automate and schedule their charity and other voluntary donations to those in need. Setting up donations on GivingFridays takes only a few minutes and can be done from the comfort of your homes.

The registered recipients of the donations that are sent through GivingFridays are Malay Muslim Organizations, which are struggling for the benefit of the Muslims in our community. Hence, by creating a GivingFridays account for your parents, you will be doing two noble acts – helping your parents fulfil their obligation, and becoming a means to contribute to the noble causes of the MMOs.
